1908: Foundation

Researcher Dr. W. Schaufelberger whom specialised in physical specialties suffered from rheumatism and develops an electric pillow that alleviates his pain. Thus the heating pad was born, founding the Solis company in Zurich for production and sales.

1933: Hairdryer production in Zurich

The first Solis hairdryer was developed on Stüssistrasse in the middle of Zurich in 1933. Some time later, in 1944, the factory in Zurich was expanded and four years later, in 1948, a branch was opened at Rancate in Ticino.

1933: The first Solis hair dryer made of metal and wood

The first Solis hairdryer was made of metal and wood. An indestructible metal hairdryer with solid nickel housing, designed for heavy use, with high blowing power. It's vibration-free, handy and comfortable, with a noble wooden handle. The device was provided with a three-core cable and an earthing plugto prevent risk of personal injury. All components are manufactured in-house at Solis - from the motor to the cable.

1943: Relocation of production to Ticino

Shortly before the end of the Second World War, Solis followed the appeal of the Federal Council and relocated production to the economically weakened Ticino.

1958: Product Highlights

In addition to heating pads and hairdryers, Solis produced quartz lamps, electric blankets, electric plate warmers, footmuffs, heated carpets and an electric coffee grinder. Particularly popular: Type 223 heating pad - the heating pad with a patented drum switch.

1983: Entrepreneur Willy A. Nauer takes over Solis

The far-sighted entrepreneur Willy A. Nauer takes over the company management and expands the company into the Soli Group. The export area's expansion continues.

1985: Launch of the world's first fully automatic home espresso machine

A little sensation for your own home: the world's first fully automatic espresso machine for household use is launched. Willy A. Nauer and Arthur Schmed took the risk and developed this miracle machine together.

To date, Solis has sold over half a million fully automatic coffee machines.

2002: The first ionic hairdryer

A must for every hairdryer today, this feature was completely unknown until 2002: ion technology. Solis launched the very first hairdryer with integrated ion technology for the European market.

Ions ensure smoother and shinier hair, easier manageability and a significantly shorter drying time. Another positive effect: statically charged hair is now a thing of the past.

2008: Celebration of the 100th anniversary

The areas of Beauty & Wellness as well as Kitchen and Climate are expanded further - both nationally and internationally.

2011: Launch of the most powerful Solis hairdryer of all time

Three years of research and development as well as numerous hours and countless practical tests to complete the perfect hairdryer: The Solis Swiss Perfection - "the strongest SOLIS ever" - is created. The Solis Swiss Perfection has been an absolute bestseller from its launch until today, for professional use as well as for home use.

2013: Generation change

After successfully leading the company for over 30 years, Willy A. Nauer is handing over the management of the Solis Group to Thomas Nauer. Prior to that, he had been Director of Sales, Export, Marketing and Purchasing since 2008.

2020: Product Excellence

Technology creates competence. In 2020, our products received recognition and awards from two labels due to their high-quality design.
